ABOUT V-HEALTHY

At V-Healthy we believe that to be healthy for life you need to have a healthy balanced diet and exercise regularly. If you do not you are putting your health at risk.

Exercise + poor diet = HEALTH RISK!

If you exercise but do not have a healthy diet you might look fit and could be slim, however you are putting your health at risk. Your cholesterol (build up of fat in arteries) will more than likely be high which will put you at risk of having a heart attack later on in life.

Healthy diet + no exercise = HEALTH RISK!

If you have a healthy diet but do not exercise regularly/at all, you are also putting your health at risk. Your muscles could be going through a process called Atrophy (wasting away). Not only does this cause your body to become less toned and lose its ‘definition’, it also slows down your metabolism. If you lose just a pound of lean muscle mass, you will burn 100 calories less each day. This will inevitably mean that you will start to put on weight. CONTACT US or read our page about EXERCISE to find out how and why you should become more active.

"JUST 1 IN EVERY 100 PEOPLE WHO GO ON A DIET SUCCEED IN SHEDDING WEIGHT PERMANENTLY", BBC News 2003

The word DIET is often misinterpreted as a quick fix to weight loss. It might surprise you, however that every one is ‘on a diet’. Diet just means what you eat on a day-to-day basis. For example someone might be on a healthy diet and someone else might be on a not so healthy diet. To be healthy for life your diet needs to be low in fat (especially saturated fat), salt and sugar, and it should consist of adequate amounts of the essential nutrients according to your energy needs:

  • Carbohydrates – potatoes, wholegrain breads, pasta & rice
  • Proteins – meat, fish, eggs, lentils & alternatives
  • Fats – milk & dairy foods
  • Vitamins & minerals – fruit & vegetables
  • Water – drinking water, herbal teas, tea and coffee

Nutrients play very important roles in the body including the following: - they provide energy, help form the structure & function of all cells, growth, repair & renewal of tissues, heat insulation and vision. It is very important therefore to get a variety of nutrients in your diet.
